ECN in Abu Dhabi

The excitement is rising for the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and International Water Summit (IWS) in Abu Dhabi next week.

Dutch Pavilion
ECN is taking part in the Dutch Pavilion, booth no. 4120, and is looking forward to discuss the latest technological advancements with business relations. Mrs. Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), will also be present at the Dutch Pavilion and the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Energy Week.

Tech Talk
ECN’s icon Prof.dr. Wim Sinke will give a 'Tech Talk' about the latest solar energy trends: “Prepare(d) for impact: silicon-based photovoltaics from niche to terawatts”.

Date:       Tuesday 21 January 2014
Time:       12.15 – 12.30 h
Location: WFES exhibition floor

Trends
The current trends that we perceive are diversification of technology and markets and the formation of the first substantial self-sustained markets. Some important challenges are to deploy solar energy on a large scale in a region with low conventional energy prices. And to build a globally competitive manufacturing industry in a region without a track record in this sector. Great opportunities are the excellent solar resource and the high ambition to build a strong solar energy sector.

Tech talk outline
Silicon photovoltaics has a history of more than half a century. It has shown impressive progress in  terms of cost and performance and has a very strong position in the global market. Nevertheless it still has great potential for further improvements. Recent technology developments and industry innovations in which ECN and its partners have played a major role will be reviewed and an outlook on the longer term will be presented. Key elements are use of new materials, integrated cell and module designs, product and enhanced sustainability.

Water-Energy Nexus: panel discussion with prominent players
ECN’s COO Robert Kleiburg will be one of the prominent speakers taking part in a panel session about the Water-Energy Nexus, which is a side event of Gulf Intelligence, taking place at the Shell stand. Four prominent players in the field participate in this panel discussion, entitled “Water resource: Leverage Water-Energy Nexus with Future Partnerships?”.

Date:       Tuesday 21 January 2014
Time:       11:30 h
Location: Shell stand, WFES exhibition floor
