Samenvatting: This paper explores opportunities for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies to abate carbon dioxide under anticipated conditions of continued fossil fuel use, and sets out the need for early demonstration of the technologies to overcome barriers to their deployment. The paper covers:• CCS technology and its role in global mitigation scenarios • The maturity of the various components of CCS technology • Costs and required investment • Policy issues and barriers to be overcome.
