Samenvatting:
This paper gives a brief description of market structure, energyconsumption and technology of three industrial sectors: iron and steel, aluminium, pulp and paper. A brief description of production and market structure is given. Technology prevalent in the developing world is compared to OECD technology based on information on specific energy consumption in several developing countries. Information at this level of detail is not readily accessible, and variations, in-country and between countries, is large. The most important energy conservation measures are identified.
