With support from the Research Councils UK (RCUK) Energy Programme, the Thermal Energy Challenge is organising the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Thermal Energy Management (SusTEM2017) in the Netherlands. The conference is jointly coordinated with the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) and also sponsored by RCUK-funded Centre for Industrial Energy, Materials and Products (CIE-MAP).

  • Keynote speeches, oral presentations and poster exhibitions: Golden Tulip Hotel, Alkmaar on 28–29 June

  • Conference dinner: Rivers Club & Restaurant, Alkmaar on 28 June

  • Site visit (optional, limited space): Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), Petten on 30 June

We have currently accepted high quality submissions from researchers in the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Belgium, China, Singapore and South Korea. There are 45 oral presentations and a large number of posters with a focus on industrial waste heat utilisation; industrial energy, materials and products; renewable heating and cooling systems; building energy performance; control, modelling and optimisation; thermal networks; energy efficiency; economics and policy challenges.

Keynote speeches include:

  • The future of renewable heating by Dave Pearson, Director, Star Renewable Energy

  • Energy efficiency in industry in the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) plan – R&D opportunities and challenges by Petter Egil Røkke, Research Director, SINTEF Energy Research

  • Building sustainability by Alistair Guthrie, former Design Leader of Global Sustainable Buildings, Arup

  • Policy and economic challenges related to the energy transition by Adel El Gammal, Secretary General, European Energy Research Alliance (EERA)

  • Innovative options for efficient use of heat in industry by Kees Biesheuvel, Technology Innovation Manager, Engineering Solutions of Dow Benelux B.V. and Cluster Director, the Netherlands’ ISPT Innovation Cluster: Utilities and Optimal Use of Heat

In the quest for a green future with highly efficient use of energy, it is our pleasure to invite you to register by 26 May and attend SusTEM2017 to address improved energy utilisation together. The agenda is available online for your consideration. We hope SusTEM2017 delegates can take this further to explore and establish international collaboration. We would appreciate if you refer SusTEM2017 to your colleagues in the field for their attention.
