Bob van der Zwaan appointed Adjunct Professor of International Relations

Amsterdam/Petten – Johns Hopkins University has appointed Bob van der Zwaan as Adjunct Professor of International Relations from 1 September 2010. This new chair is part of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University in Bologna and will be dedicated to teaching in the field of energy innovation and climate change. Bob van der Zwaan is senior researcher at the Policy Studies department of the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) and is affiliated as senior scientist with the Earth Institute (Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy) of Columbia University in New York.

As Adjunct Professor of International Relations Bob van der Zwaan will focus on energy innovation and climate change, and address subjects at the cross section between technology, public policy, economics and international relations. With this chair the SAIS Bologna Center broadens its expertise in the energy and climate field, while ECN further profiles itself as a world-leading institute specialised in the economics and politics of energy technology. With almost 10 years of experience at ECN Policy Studies, and a background in physics, economics and international relations, Bob van der Zwaan will contribute to the master’s program of the SAIS Bologna Center. In the spring semester he will teach the class ‘Energy and Climate Change’.

The Bologna Center of the School of Advanced International Studies is the European branch of Johns Hopkins University’s SAIS in Washington DC. The Bologna Center and SAIS are among the world’s top graduate schools with master’s programs in international relations. Energy and climate themes are playing an increasing role in international politics and hence receive rapidly expanding attention in master’s programs in international relations.

ECN Policy Studies enjoys an outstanding worldwide reputation in the field of energy technology research and policy advice, and has during several decades built a broad record of offering expert advice to realize optimal energy and climate strategies in The Hague, Brussels and elsewhere in the world. The Policy Studies department works extensively together with universities, institutes and industry, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
