The unit
The world is changing fast and the demand for innovative solutions and smart applications for a sustainable society is urgent: the transition to a sustainable energy system is inevitable. The unit Biomass & Energy Efficiency is looking for a Research Scientist to join our team.
The unit Biomass & Energy Efficiency focuses on developing technology for:
- Thermal conversion of biomass in energy and chemicals,
- Efficient use of energy in the process industry, and
- CO2 capture
The Unit is organized into four groups: Sustainable Process Technology, Thermal Systems, Bio-energy and Bio Refinery & Processing. The latter group has the vacancy.
The Biorefinery & Processing group develops technology for the production of transportation fuels and chemicals from biomass. The group develops new methods to improve energy efficiency and to enable the efficient use of biobased feedstocks in the chemical industry.
The Position
You are responsible for application-oriented research and development within projects, both on lab and pilot scale. In collaboration with the project leader, you set the project targets and independently schedule and plan your work. You are responsible for preparing and conducting the experiments and for the independent interpretation, reporting and presentation of the research results. Based on these results, you draw up advice and make recommendations for further development steps and subsequent research.
Your profile, education and experience
You have obtained an advanced degree in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry from an accredited organization at the minimum of the )PhD level or equivalent. You have a passion for experimental research and development. You are entrepreneurial, creative, independent and flexible. You are experienced in designing and conducting experiments and have demonstrated capabilities in the interpretation and reporting of the results. You are experienced with project management and you highly value quality, safety and the environment. Good communication skills both with colleagues at various levels as well as outside customers are an asset to the prospective candidate. You keep closely abreast with the current developments in your area and creatively use these developments in conducting your work and in starting up new initiatives. Recently graduated candidates are also encouraged to apply. Good oral and written communication skills in English are a prerequisite. We expect that you are willing to learn the Dutch language at the NT2 level.
