Advisor Wind Farms
ECN is the largest research center in the Netherlands in the field of energy. ECN develops high-quality knowledge and technology for the transition to sustainable energy management and ECN introduces this knowledge and technology to the market. Our focus is on energy conservation, sustainable energy and an efficient and clean use of fossil fuels.
The unit
ECN Wind holds a leading international position in the field of wind energy research. A convenient truth: the wind energy sector has been growing exponentially over the last decades and will continue this growth in the next decades as it is the only emission free bulk renewable electricity option that can be implemented in the short term at relatively low cost. The activities at ECN Wind focus on offshore wind power plants and should lead to a reduction in cost of energy (CoE) of offshore wind power and, related to this, increased return on investment (ROI) for offshore wind power plants. Together with (inter)national partners, ECN Wind develops knowledge and technology that will help the wind industry to innovate, and thus reduce the CoE. Examples of customers of ECN Wind are wind farm developers, constructors, operation & maintenance (O&M) companies, and the Dutch government. ECN has its own wind turbine test location in Wieringermeer with various turbines for experimental research and a scaled wind farm for experiments on for example wake aerodynamics. The unit has approximately 45 employees.
The position Advisor Wind Farms
You will work as an advisor for wind farm developers, constructors, operation & maintenance companies, and the Dutch government. You will advise on how to reduce the cost of energy, and you can clearly identify the pros and cons of several (innovative) technical options. Possible topics are: appropriate site selection, selection of turbines, decisions on farm lay-out, and advice on O&M strategy. For more detailed technical matters, you will consult your colleagues. As you'll be in close contact with our customers, acquisition of new projects (advisory projects as well as research projects) is an important task, for which you will closely co-operate with our business developers. In addition to your tasks as advisor to companies, you will act within the unit Wind as an integrator for enhanced interdisciplinary co-operation, which will lead to valuable market-ready solutions. In this way, you will make sure that ECN's research activities lead to a reduction of the Cost of Energy of (mainly offshore) wind energy.
Your profile
You are a dynamic and enthusiastic person that is very much oriented towards solutions, and your motivation and drive comes from assisting customers. You have a sound commercial awareness and a strong persistence. Holding an academic degree in a technical-scientific area, you have a solid knowledge on the techno-economic issues of wind farms. As a natural networker, you already possess a relevant network in the wind industry. You have strong communication skills and are able to present yourself in English and preferably in Dutch. As your playground is the world, frequent travelling is part of your job.
