ECN Policy Studies
The unit Policy Studies develops and shares knowledge, experience and strategic advice as an independent party in the market. The unit is highly esteemed by our clients, which include international organisations, ministries in the Netherlands and abroad, the European Commission, energy companies, branch organisations and industry. The unit stands out because of our multidisciplinary work method that integrates technical, economic and social aspects into our advice. We are well-informed about the latest developments in the field of markets and energy policy, have advanced and up-to-date models to quantify the effects of policy and we collaborate frequently with other renowned organisations. The unit Policy Studies has developed into a team of 60 researchers, working on about 200 projects in various dossiers every year. The unit is structured according to four thematic groups that work together intensively. The unit has two offices; one in Petten and one in Amsterdam.
The Global Sustainability group
The advertised position is for the group management of ECN Policy Studies Global Sustainability Group. This group focuses on international energy and climate policy questions and modelling of global energy systems. The group carries out projects in the field of international climate policy, policy aimed at enhancing renewable energy and energy saving in developing countries, issues in energy and development and global energy developments. Knowledge of the operation of policy instruments, financing, international relations, economic considerations and technology are integrated. Some of these projects require employees in the group to stay abroad for longer periods of time. The group is located in the ECN office in Amsterdam.
De function
As the Senior Manager Global Sustainability, you are responsible for managing the day to day business in the group, and the financial management and programme management. You represent the group externally, e.g. to the Dutch government, and maintain contacts with key clients. You also use your existing network in the areas of international energy and climate policy and/or energy and development to acquire new business opportunities. You are accountable for the realisation of the established objectives of the group and draw up the operational and financial plans and monitor and enhance the quality, quantity and timely completion of research and consultancy assignments undertaken within the group. You supervise the projects in the unit team and manage the group of researchers. You draw up the research programme together with the senior managers and the Unit Programme Developer. In collaboration with the researchers of the Group, you update the group's strategy, and as part of the Management Team of ECN Policy Studies, you contribute to the decisions on the strategy of the unit.
Your profile
You have obtained a degree at an academic level and have at least 10 years of work experience, including international experience, preferably in a developing country context. You are passionate about energy issues in developing countries and in international climate policy and you have an extensive network in these areas. You have proven experience in people management and in providing policy advise in the areas of international energy and climate policy. Ideally, you also have an understanding of global energy models. As a professional, you have affinity with policy and strategy development. You have strong analytical skills and you are used to planning, delegating and monitoring. You are used to working with fellow professionals and are able to bring out the best in them. You create space for personal development without losing sight of the intended results.
