Researcher Thin-Film PV (EINDHOVEN)
The Unit
The overall focus of ECN's unit Solar Energy is to carry out research on the conversion of sunlight into electricity, i.e., the field of photovoltaics (PV). Within the unit, 80 employees develop solar cells and solar modules with the ambition to enhance conversion efficiencies and to lower the cost of ownership of solar modules and systems. We have established a worldwide network in which we cooperate with universities, research institutes and PV industry. Our R&D portfolio comprises multi-crystalline silicon solar cells, thin-film solar cells and module technology. The work on thin-film PV is done in Solliance, the cooperation of ECN, Holst Centre, TNO, University of Eindhoven and imec (B) in the field of thin-film PV.
Your work
You will investigate and develop vacuum deposition techniques for inorganic thin-film layers in order to fabricate high-efficient thin-film solar cells. You will perform physical and materials characterization of devices and from the results you know how to modify and improve the fabrication process. During the development of deposition and fabrication processes you anticipate that these processes have to be operated in production machines.
It is important to be well aware of the latest developments in the area of inorganic thin-film PV and the employed manufacturing processes. As a member of multidisciplinary project teams you will take care of the scientific understanding, the design and evaluation measurement and modeling programs and for the scientific reporting of the results.
Your profile, training and experience
We are looking experimental physicist of PhD level with physical chemistry knowledge who has:
" proven knowledge and experience in semiconductor physics, optics and measurement & control techniques;
" experimental experience with high-vacuum plasma-, evaporation and sputter- deposition techniques;
" sound knowledge of solid state characterization and analysis techniques and who has experience with statistical analysis and modeling;
" the ability to set up and perform the research and development in a well-organized and structured way.
Also it is important that you are able to communicate about complex matters such that your counterpart can understand it easily. You are customer-oriented and you have a strong quality awareness. Colleagues enjoy working with you.
