Electrical systems & components

To reach its renewable energy goals, the Dutch government aims to have installed 6000 MW of offshore wind energy capacity in the Netherlands by the year 2020. These wind farms have to be connected to the national grid by high voltage sea cables and will have to contribute to grid control and stability just like other power stations. For this purpose, wind farm and grid calculations, dynamic as well as steady-state have to be performed.

Secondly, the electrical systems of the wind farms have to be designed and optimized with respect to costs and reliability. This requires wind farm steady-state, dynamic and economic evaluations.

ECN Wind Energy developed, in collaboration with TUD Electrical Power Processing, two types of models: EeFarm and DynFarm. EeFarm has recently been reprogrammed and updated in collaboration with Vattenfall.
