ECN: Energy Transition Model

Energy Transition Model

The Energy Transition Model puts you in the driver’s seat of determining the future of our energy system. With it, you create scenarios that help you to specify your assumptions about the energy system and to test your beliefs about the technologies of the future.

  • What role will gas play in the energy transition?
  • Do you believe renewable energy sources will be cheaper than gas and coal in the future?
  • Do you think electric cars are to be preferred?
  • Are you sure that replacing your incandescent lamps with LED lamps is the most efficient way to save energy in your house?

The Energy Transition Model gives you more insight in how the world of energy really works. Start with an empty scenario, or see if you can improve on scenarios like the 80% CO2 reduction scenario. The model is freely available online and does not require any plugins to run.

The Energy Transition Model is being developed in a partnership with more than 20 organizations. As of 2011 the Energy research Center of the Netherlands (ECN) has joined this initiative as a partner. ECN supports the Energy Transition Model. ECN does not, however, accept any responsibility for the results of the model.
