Energy and emission scenarios
ECN Policy Studies develops and contributes to national and European scenarios in which outlines are given of possible or feasible images of the future with regard to energy and/or climate policy:
- Reference Outlook. The Reference Outlook (Referentieramingen in Dutch) is a plausible assessment of the development in the Dutch energy economy up to the year 2020.
- Quintel Energy Transition Model. ECN is cooperating with Quintel Intelligence to support and extend the Energy Transition Model. ECN considers this model an important instrument to disclose knowledge on energy systems to a wider audience.
- WLO scenarios. Long-term trends such as the decreasing household size, the ageing population, international migration, economic growth, and increasing personal welfare, will change the Dutch natural and built environment significantly. This national foresight exercise analyses the combined impact of these trends on various aspects of the Dutch urban and rural landscape. The energy scenarios are developed and evaluated by ECN Policy Studies.
- Energietransition Scenarios. De Dutch Energy Council and VROM-Raad (council of the Dutch Ministry for Environment) formulated in 2004 in the report 'Energietransitie: klimaat voor nieuwe kansen' (Energy Transition. A Climate for New Transitions) on the transition to a sustainabled energy economy. ECN Policy Studies elaborated on the options and bottlenecks for energy scenarios with regard to transition policy.
- European Energy Future. An essay in English in which four contrasting scenarios outline the future for energy in Europe.
- Energy Vision. A vision by ECN and the Nuclear Research consultancy Group on a sustainable energy economy in Europe for the year 2050.
