Remko Ybema is unit manager of the unit Policy Studies of the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands ECN, that employs 50 researchers. He has 17 years experience in energy and environment related policy studies and is staff member of the Policy Studies unit for ten years. His main areas of expertise are within the fields of evaluation of policy instruments, climate change policy and energy scenarios. Regarding climate change issues, his work has encompassed analyses of effects of policies and measures, prospects for innovative technologies, burden differentiation issues and mitigation scenarios. He led the project to establish guidelines for baseline studies of the Dutch JI programme ERUPT. Further, he was strongly involved in the IPCC work for the Third Assessment Report. He is experienced in leading politically sensitive projects; he led e.g. the recently finalised new energy outlook and greenhouse gas projection that serve as the new reference of Dutch climate policy. He has both extensive experiences in international projects as in projects for Dutch clients. As he co-ordinates the contacts of the Policy Studies unit with both the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Environment, he has up-to-date detailed knowledge of Dutch policy situation on energy and climate issues. He has coordinated various scenario studies, including scenarios for the Netherlands, India and Western Europe. In 2006 he was part of the core team that developed a new strategy plan for ECN. He is also member of ECN’s energy transition think tank. |
