Michiel Hekkenberg is a broadly oriented energy and environmental scientist. He started working at ECN Policy Studies in 2009, after completing his PhD at the university of Groningen. Michiel’s key interest lies in the combined analysis of physical, socio-economic and political structures to pinpoint barriers and opportunities to advance the transition to a sustainable energy system. His work at Policy Studies centers on integrating key aspects of such an energy transition in policy advice, projecting future energy use and emissions in local and national energy systems,  assessing and advising on innovation strategies and marine spatial planning policy.
