RESolve-E

The RESolve-E model is a simulation model providing projections of renewable electricity developments in EU countries. Important input for the model is current policy in those countries (for example the height of feed-in tariffs), information about technology costs and potentials.

A schematic overview of RESolve-E is presented below:

Countries: all 27 European Union Member States (EU-27) including Norway

Time horizon: 2002 – 2030 (at one-year intervals)

Sectors: renewable electricity & renewable heat from combined heat and power (CHP)

In 2012 the RESolve-E model has been used in the Biomass Futures project. In this project data on policy, cost for technologies, and financing parameters have been updated. Furthermore, the model has been calibrated to approach the situation up to 2010 as closely as possible. This calibration is important for a realistic projection after 2010. Currently the model is being used in the RES4LESS project where RESolve-E used to construct cost supply curves in order to determine the technology mix and cost levels of RES-E surpluses in EU27.

Besides studies with an EU-27 scope, RESolve-E is used for national energy planning in the Netherlands as well. The model has been used to deliver inputs on RES-E, green gas and RES-H for Dutch energy sector scenario projections, called the Reference Projections. For this purpose the RESolve-E model covers the Dutch part of the model in more detail. Furthermore besides RES-E also green gas and RES-H are covered for the Netherlands.
