Applications

The POWERS model has been used for studies on:

• Reference projections for the Netherlands and its updates up to the year 2020
• Long term scenario studies, up to 2030 or 2040
• Evaluations of Dutch energy and climate policies (‘Verkenning Schoon en Zuinig’)
• Social cost-benefit analysis Wind energy at the North Sea (CPB/ECN, 2005)
• Impacts of closure or lifetime extension of nuclear power plant Borssele
• Update reference projections energy and emissions 2009-2020 (ECN/PBL, 2009)
• Wholesale electricity price projections as a basis for long term subsidies for renewable electricity productions (MEP, and more recently, the SDE feed-in premium subsidy scheme).

POWERS is also part of the overall NEOMS (National Energy Outlook Modelling System, NEV-RS).
