Solid Oxide Fuel Cells convert H2 and CO to electricity. Because it not only can convert H2 and CO, but also hydrocarbons such as methane, an SOFC seems to be a good option for connection to a biomass gasifier. Challenges mainly concern gas cleaning to remove anything that may poison the SOFC. Several tests have been performed successfully at ECN where different gasifiers (leaflet 13) have been connected to an SOFC stack.
