ECN has extensive equipment and knowledge concerning measurements of all kind of gaseous components. A patented sampling system is used to prepare gases for analyses in on-line gas monitors and micro-GC’s for the analyses of e.g. H2, CO, CH4, CO2, N2, argon, benzene, toluene, H2S, ethylene, acetylene. Gas samples can be made similarly for off-line analyses of e.g. mercaptanes, CS2, thiophenes. Tars generally are measured using the SPA-technique by which a fixed volume flows through a small sorbent, which is upgraded for further GC-analyses. Tars can also be measured using the tar protocol that has been developed by different European partners. Tar dew points are measured using the Tar Dew point Analyzer. Analyses know-how and equipment is used to support R&D at ECN, but also has been used many times outside ECN for clients in e.g. the Netherlands, UK, USA, Austria, Costa Rica, Germany, Denmark, France (see list).
