ECN: Air Quality and Climate Change

ECN

Air Quality and Climate Change

Our group focuses on environmental effects that occur in the atmosphere due to the production and use of energy. Through our research, we wish to develop knowledge and help address policy issues relating to the following areas:

  • Spread of pollutants in the atmosphere
  • Climate change due to greenhouse gases and particulate matter
  • Characterisation of particulate matter

Our research projects are relevant for:

  • Policy preparation
  • Translation of EU standards and guidelines into Dutch policy
  • Predictions about how measures will work out
  • Determination of how measures have worked out
  • Development and standardisation of measurement methods
  • Development and dissemination of scientific knowledge

Our clients are governments and companies. Within ECN, we regularly work together with the units Policy Studies, Hydrogen & Clean Fossil Fuels, and Efficiency & Infrastructure. We also have various collaborative partnerships with other research institutes and universities in the Netherlands and abroad.

In order to perform our research, we frequently require instruments that are not (yet) commercially available. If this is the case, we develop these ourselves and then often find a partner who brings them on the market.
