ECN: Bio-chemicals

ECN

Biochemicals

What is it?
Biochemicals are value-added products from the biorefinery of biomass. Biorefinery is the sustainable processing of biomass into a spectrum of marketable products and energy.

What does it mean for the customer?
With and for customers, ECN develops and implements thermochemical processes for full conversion of non-food biomass (lignocellulosic and aquatic) into biochemicals, biomaterials and biofuels. This is accomplished through proof of principle and proof of concept activities, using dedicated pretreatment reactors and a variety of thermochemical conversion and downstream processing equipment. The focus is an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sound fractionation of biomass and thermochemical conversion of its fractions into valuable products.

What can ECN do for you?
ECN conducts techno- and socio-economic analysis of biorefinery concepts. ECN participates and offers specialised expertise in private partnerships, national and international biorefinery projects. Partners are the chemical industry, the agricultural and constuction sector and research institutes and universities.
