Clean and sustainable

The ECN research programme Biomass and Coal holds a top position in the European energy sector in the field of sustainable thermochemical techniques. In other words: the conversion of biomass, coal and waste into energy and feedstocks by means of efficient, environmentally friendly technology that is, above all, in accordance with the market.

This position is the result of the unique variety of research facilities and installations the unit Biomass, Coal and Environmental research has at its disposal, plus the knowledge required to exploit these facilities and installations to their best advantage. Within the Environment research groups, an extensive research programme on Energy and Environmental Quality is executed. In cooperation with the Biomass and Coal programmes this makes an excellent combination for quantifying the aspects of Biomass and Sustainability.
