Innovative applications

The knowledge and tools developed within ECN Wind Energy are applied for the development of innovative applications and products. Large effort in wind farm aerodynamics research during the last years have led to the development of two wind farm optimization techniques. ECN has patented these control strategies for the optimization of wind farm performance:

• Heat & Flux
• Controlling Wind

These control strategies are further being tested at the ECN scale wind farm.

Other applications are

• the offshore wind atlas (the offshore wind resource)
• the site atlas (model to estimate the costs of offshore wind farms)
• models for wind farm interaction
• wind power forecasting
