The focus of the Encouraged project was on so-called energy corridors: infrastructure linkages in the EU and between the EU and neighbouring regions. The project analysed future infrastructure requirements and necessary investment conditions for gas, electricity and hydrogen markets.

In 2004, the Dutch energy council prepared an advice for the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs on future Dutch gas market policy. ECN Policy Studies contributed to this advice in discussions and through the provision of background reports and notes.
ENGAGED
The ENGAGED project addressed long-term issues on security of gas supply in the EU in general, and in Eastern European countries in particular. It discussed national and regional gas supply developments, analysed security of supply scenarios and provided recommendations with respect to required gas infrastructure developments.
