Electricity market - European focus

The Energy Production, Markets and Networks (EMP) group of ECN Policy Studies conducts research on a variety of different electricity market issues on an international level. Some of them are listed below:

• Analyzing the impact of developments in generation, demand, and energy policies in EU on electricity market prices in the Netherlands and the other EU countries
• Exchange flows between EU countries
• Congestion in the electricity network

IRENE-40 (ongoing)
Identify the strategies for investors and regulators enabling a more secure, ecologically sustainable and competitive European electricity system.

Susplan (ongoing)
Development of strategies, recommendations, and benchmarks for the integration of renewable energy sources.

New Congestion Scheme for the Netherlands
The new connection policy for power plants is expected to result in congestion management across the Dutch grid. ECN was asked by the Ministry of Economic Affairs to evaluate several congestion management schemes under perfect and imperfect market conditions.

Future Electricity Prices in North-West Europe
Project on the likely evolution of electricity prices in the region of North-West Europe for a set of different scenarios with respect to developments of the economy, policies and infrastructure.
