ECN: Framing Climate and Development mini-symposium

ECN

Mini-Symposium Development and Climate: merging policy agendas?

On October 12, ECN organises a symposium on the merging development and climate policy agendas. The symposium aims to engage and inspire policymakers, negotiators and practitioners in the field of development, climate change and energy and will be chaired by Bert Metz, now at the European Climate Foundation and formerly co-chair of IPCC Working Group III.

Over recent years, the climate and development policy agendas have been under budgetary and political pressure. At the same time, climate and development are increasingly discussed and considered simultaneously. Criticism on both climate finance and ODA has increased, from developing and developed world academics and politicians alike. We can also observe the emergence of policy instruments that address both climate and development, such as NAMAs and low carbon development strategies. In the adaptation discussions, the link is even more clear.

During the symposium, the rationale, means and consequences of the nearing of the climate and development policy agendas will be discussed in order to help shaping both policy fields further, inform policymakers and thinkers, and inspire negotiators and practitioners in both the climate and the development worlds.

The draft background paper can be found here.
