Description
The initiative pools the resources of the participants in order to develop models to meet the needs for modern energy services in rural areas of Africa, including their business, institutional, technological financial & social aspects . The initiative will develop training modules for different private and public actors and identify opportunities for creation of rural energy services and organizations, and propose arrangements for their access to necessary technologies.

Goal
- To accelerate the development of adequate delivery mechanisms for vital energy services in rural Africa.
- To help raise awareness of private and public actors at all levels of the importance for sustainable development of providing adequate energy services.

Choose Positive Energy Campaign

Description
The Choose Positive Energy Campaign aims to secure a commitment from world leaders at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development to choose positive energy for two billion of the world's poorest people within 10 years; and to encourage as many people to choose positive energy for their own homes in countries where it is already available.

Goal
To get people the clean and reliable energy necessary for essential needs such as clean water, health care facilities, heating and lighting ; to respond global warming threats

Energy for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development

Description
Through the Initiative the EU proposes to establish 'Energy Access Partnerships' with developing countries, with the involvement of the private sector and civil society, that will develop in response to the energy needs of developing countries and regions. Through these Partnerships, donors will work with developing countries to help identify energy needs and necessary assistance to create the economic, social and institutional conditions that will enable their energy needs to be met.

To facilitate the provision of adequate, affordable, sustainable energy services, particularly for poor women and men, based on their specific circumstances and requirement

Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP)

Description
Global Village Energy Partnership seeks to create a 10-year program to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development through accelerated provision of modern energy services (electricity, thermal energy, clean liquid and gaseous fuels) to those un-served or under-served. GVEP brings together developing and industrialized country governments, public and private organizations, multilateral institutions, consumers and others in an effort to ensure access to modern energy services by the poor.

Goal
- To reduce the poverty level of the population through the participation of developing countries governments (national, state, provincial and local).
- To include and train local community and civil society organizations, NGO's and entrepreneurs in a network of services providers, technicians and project managers.
- To increase business opportunities; to facilitate the access of the private sector to information and to improve partnerships with the public sector.
- To extend the energy-related portfolios of domestic and international financial institutions.
- To improve the access to critical information for multilateral and bilateral aid donors.

100% Renewable Energy Islands

Description
The partnership will assist island states to meet 100% of their energy requirements from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) by helping them with the preparation & planning, organization and all the inputs (technical, financial & managerial) required for implementation of the 100% RES plan. In this process there will be a special attention for: capacity building on SIDS to plan, implement & manage RE technologies and achieve the '100% RE Island' target; a maximum community involvement in planning & implementation of their energy supply; the local manufacture of energy equipment and therefore more employment opportunities. The partnership will be implemented in close collaboration with the ministries & departments of national governments, and regional organisations who are responsible for generations and supply of energy, and other aspects of sustainable development that depend on supply of energy.

Goal
- To assist island states to meet 100% of their energy requirements from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) by helping them with the preparation & planning, organization and all the inputs (technical, financial & managerial) required for implementation of the 100% RES plan.
- to meet energy needs from locally available renewable sources in a sustainable manner.
- To create local employment and generate income.
- To stop the use of fossil fuels and the environmental damage caused by these fuels.
