It is expected that the future electricity supply of the Netherlands will be characterised by a large-scale penetration of renewable energy sources. Several studies have been carried out on the technical and economical potential in the Netherlands for each of the different renewable options. An integral analysis of the implementation of renewables in the Netherlands, including institutional, economical and societal aspects and also the mutual effects of these different aspects, has rarely been performed. The proposed research study aims at providing such an integral analysis, which is expected to support the present Dutch policy in this area (outlined in the Third Energy White Paper) and possibly also accelerate. This study will limit itself to the electricity supply, because it is expected that the largest share of the renewable energy contribution will be supplied in the form of grid-coupled electricity.
The study is divided into three parts.
