Pieter Kroon

Pieter Kroon is a specialist in energy and environmental studies at the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands ECN. He has over 23 years of experience in energy and environment related policy studies mainly for the Dutch government. His main fields of expertise comprise the Dutch energy supply and the energy use of transportation, the refineries, and the environment (SO2, NOx and CO2 emissions). As one of the national experts in these fields he is frequently asked to participate in workshops and to comment on reports. He has been project leader of the National Energy Outlook 1985-2015, one of the largest projects of ECN Policy Studies, conducted in co-operation with RIVM and CPB, and a follow up on options for energy saving. In April 2002 he stopped with his part time activities in the works council after nine year (of which six years as chairman). During those years he handled complex decision processes and participated in negotiations on terms of employment, but consequently had less time for leading projects. Since 2002 he participated as a sector specialist in a number of national and international projects. He was project leader for several studies for the Dutch Ministry of the Environment in the field of NOx emissions of small installations in relation to NOx emission trading. In 2005, he worked part-time at this ministry for nine months during the second evaluation of the Dutch efforts for reaching the 2010 Kyoto target. In 2006 he conducted advisory work for the second allocation plan of CO2 emission in the Netherlands for the trading period 2008 to 2012 of the EU Emission Trading Scheme.
