Jos Sijm holds a PhD in economics from the Tinbergen Institute (Erasmus University Rotterdam). At present, he is a senior energy and environmental economist at ECN Policy Studies with more than 12 years of experience in EU climate policies and energy markets. In addition, he is guest-professor at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig. Already in 2001-2003, he became a leading expert in a large EU project INTERACT (FP5, DG Research) which analysed potential interactions of EU emissions trading and other climate/energy policies at the EU and national levels. Subsequently, he has led several projects for the Dutch government and the European Commission (DG ENV/CLIMA) on the performance of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), in particular its implications for the power sector and electricity prices. His list of (peer-reviewed) publications and (international) presentations refers to topics such as the performance of EU emissions trading, the interaction of energy and climate policy instruments, and the performance of energy and carbon markets. At present, he is leading several projects for the Dutch government on various topics such as a Social Cost Benefit Analysis of investments in interconnection, an assessment of the economic significance and potential of the Dutch electricity sector, and an assessment of splitting the EU ETS between the energy sector and industry. |
