Drs. Herman Snoep obtained a Master’s degree in Economics at the VU University Amsterdam in 1980, specializing in government economics (public finance, welfare economics) and spatial economics (transport economics, regional economics and energy economics). Before joining ECN Mr. Snoep worked at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. First he was involved in the field of spatial economic policy, but after several years he switched to the field of energy policy. In the last ten years at the Ministry he worked on policy for energy production and energy markets, focusing on gas but also on sustainable energy policy. His activities included membership of the shareholders advisory college of GasTerra where he evaluated the proposed decisions of the Board of Directors on behalf of the highest decision making college. Moreover, Mr. Snoep was thematic coordinator of the Gas Roundabout within the board of Energy markets, managing all the people involved in this area of expertise. He also represented the Netherlands at the European Regulatory Gas forum (Madrid forum) and in the Gas coordination group, which focuses on security of supply within the EU-framework.
He has extensive experience in policy design and a deep knowledge of developments in energy production, networks and markets. His main interest lies with gas market supply issues and especially the role of gas in the transition towards a sustainable energy system; electricity market issues and especially the integration of renewable energy, and the security of energy supply issue. |
