Frans Nieuwenhout is a senior researcher who received a MSc degree in experimental physics in 1985 from Utrecht University. Since 1990 he is employed by ECN. Originally he worked in the field of policy support in developing countries, focusing on energy planning and renewable energy application. Currently his interest is mainly on integration of variable renewables (mainly solar and wind energy) into electricity networks and energy markets. He has substantial experience in smart grids projects both at the national as well as EU projects. Recently he contributed to the EU project IRENE-40 which studies future electricity networks in Europe until 2050. Currently he works for the smart grids project EcoGrid. |
