COMPETES model has been used in projects in particular for future scenario analysis to assess the impact of developments in generation and demand on future market prices, import/export flows, potential bottlenecks in transmission lines etc. In addition, COMPETES is well suitable to analyze the impact on the (loss in) benefits of the major players in the electricity sector (i.e. TSO, consumer and producer). The recent projects in which COMPETES is used are:

  • North Sea Transnational Grid (NSTG) Project  (Ongoing): With COMPETES the impact on the benefits of the major players in the electricity sector are analyzed from a social welfare perspective within a set of North Sea Transnational Grid scenarios.

  • Synergies at Sea (Ongoing) : With COMPETES the impact on the benefits of the major players in the electricity sector are analyzed from a social welfare perspective within a set of scenario

  • MKBA Interconnectie (Ongoing): With COMPETES a case study is performed on the impact on the benefits of the major players in the electricity sector.
  • IRENE-40 Project (2012): With COMPETES, five IRENE-40 scenarios are analyzed from an economic (e.g., generation costs, congestion rent, perfectly competitive e-prices)  and sustainability perspective (e.g., CO2 emissions)
