COMPETES - Developments in 2009
- Generation, consumption, and transmission data in particular in North-West European countries were updated
- Previous model formulation was reduced to Linear Program and Non-linear program formulations which saved the running time of the model significantly (from 30 min to 30 sec)
- The old version of the model has been an EU-20 model with one node representation for each country for the network. In 2009, an extended version of this model was developed in which the internal electricity network of the Netherlands is decomposed into 4 regions and that of Germany is decomposed into 10 regions. The extended version can be used to identify the possible internal congestion in these countries in future due to generation capacity and demand developments in a scenario-based analysis
- A green certificate market in the Netherlands was modeled and incorporated into COMPETES so that one could assess the impact of obligation levels on the value of green certificate prices for expensive renewable technologies.
