COMPETES* (COmpetition and Market Power in Electric Transmission and Energy Simulator) is an equilibrium model of a transmission-constrained power market in Europe. The model represents the competition between decentralized power producers in the European power market (27 member states, Norway, Switzerland, and the Balkan countries) including a representation of the cross-border transmission limitations interconnecting these European countries.
Every country is represented by one node, except for Luxembourg which is aggregated to Germany, and Denmark is split in two nodes due to its participation in two non-synchronous networks. Each node is connected to neighboring nodes by a single interconnection per border, where NTC values represent the transmission capacity on a certain interconnection.
