Products & Services

ECN offers a wide range of products and services related to membrane technology. Below a few options are high lighted. Please contact us for your specific needs and requirements.

Modules

Ecn provides two different types of membrane and module systems for the separation of hydrogen and for pervaporation applications respectively.
Hysep® (www.hysep.com) comprises a line of hydrogen separation modules for evaluation purposes. The technology is based on thin-film palladium membranes wich are capable of separating high purity hydrogen from a gas mixture. The membrane surface area of the standardized modules ranges from 0.06m2 to 0.5m2.
For pervaporation applications, we offer two different single tube modules with a HybSi® membrane. The first contains a membrane of ~40 cm2 and the second ~400 cm2. More information can be obtained from our website www.hybsi.com.

Contract research and testing

The core competences of ECN are available to external parties in the form of confidential contract research and membrane testing. The experience with scaling up membranes systems with a keen eye on reproducibility together with the extensive characterization and testing equipment has proven to be attractive for external parties in the past.

Laboratory equipment

ECN has developed a range of membrane test and characterization installations. These in-house designed and build pieces of equipment are now also available for external parties. All our equipment will be delivered in accordance with EU legislation. Two examples are described below.

Permporometer
Knowing the pore size and size distribution of selective layers is essential in the development and application of ceramic membranes. The ECN Permporometer offers a quick, cheap end effective method for the characterization of micro- and mesoporous membranes. The Permporometer has been developed by the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands, and has been proven to be essential in the successful development of novel ceramic membranes. Gas permeation installation
Knowing the permeance characteristics of selective layers is essential in the development and application of porous and dense membranes for gas separation applications. The ECN Gas Permeance Installation (GPI) offers a quick, cheap and effective method for the characterization of these types of membranes. The GPI has been developed by the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands and has been proven to be essential in the successful development of porous and dense membranes.
