Biorefinery

ECN biorefinery R&D aims to help customers develop technologies to convert biomass into fuels, chemicals and other products. A very important step in biorefinery is the pre-treatment of biomass to produce fractions that can be converted in biochemical or catalytic reactors. ECN has equipment to do fractionation research of various biomass types and produce test samples of fractions such as lignin, cellulose and seaweed extracts. ECN also develops processes for the conversion and the use of these fractions in a range of fuels and bio-materials.
