The LCS is a lab-scale facility that is made to mimic pulverized fuel boilers and gasifiers. Fuel particles are fed into the reactor in which the gas atmosphere is created by concentric burners. Typical gas temperatures are 1500°C. The LCS is used to obtain information on conversion, emissions, deposition, and fouling. Results have been validated using large-scale pulverized fuel boilers and entrained flow gasifiers. In general, the LCS is a very valuable tool for high-temperature process R&D, including the production of BioSyngas.
