Due diligence

ECN offers to perform due diligence for eg. a second opinion or support in an investment decision. We are able to assess technology for interested parties who intend to invest in renewable energy projects, but do not have the competence to value and judge the proposed technology. ECN has strongly invested in knowledge on thermal conversion in general and biomass-related technologies in particular. Especially biomass gasification is within our core expertise but the combination with knowledge on eg. torrefaction, combustion, air quality, ash handling, tar, etc. does make a valuable match. The practical experience gained through on-site campaigns combined with our own experimental facilities gives our knowledge real value. Furthermore, through our networks, we are up-to-date on worldwide developments in the field of gasification and other thermal conversion technologies. Assessments that we perform range between desk studies and measurements on eg. a pilot plant.

References: ECN assessed various technologies for potential investors. These have been valuable contributions to risk assessments of large projects. It includes several RDF gasification technologies for heat and power production, technology for plastic gasification and chlorine recovery, comparison of specific options to produce syngas from biomass for further upgrading to diesel, a fixed bed gasification technology for treatment of industrial waste, etc.
