ECN presents state of the art n-type PV cells in world’s largest market China
ECN is front runner in the field of solar energy technology and together with the Dutch businesses Tempress, Levitech, Eurotron and European partners, it promotes state-of-the-art technology and process equipment for high-efficiency solar cells and modules. The recently held CSPV solar energy conference in China offered the perfect platform for this.
The PV market is dominated by solar panels based on p-type silicon, with the second technique, n-type silicon, being less developed. However, this n-type is generally considered to be the future for the PV industry due to its better performances. ECN introduced state-of-the-art n-type technique to the Chinese PV market , in collaboration with various European businesses and institutes. China is the largest PV market and hence constitutes the most important market for the transfer of new technologies for ECN and its partners. This is a breakthrough with a large potential.
Gaining foothold
ECN was co-organiser of this Chinese solar energy conference and held a special one-day workshop on n-type PV solar cell- and module-technologies it has developed.
China is the largest exporter of solar panels to Europe and the United States.
Despite the fact that the Chinese market is often considered as ‘closed’, European organisations have meanwhile succeeded in gaining foothold there. ECN is one example of such an organisation, exporting new sustainable technology to Asia, together with other European industry partners.
The 3-day ‘China solar grade silicon and photovoltaic power generation conference” (CSPV) was organised in collaboration with the China Renewable Energy Association, Zhejiang University, Zhongshan University and the Shanghai Solar Association. Prominent representatives from the Chinese industry such as SunTech, JA Solar and LDK attended the conference. The conference has resulted in many organisations approaching ECN to explore the opportunities for closer collaboration.
