ITRI and ECN sign MOU on collaboration on Green Energy

On the 10th of May 2012, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on collaboration on Green Energy, specifically in the area of Wind Energy, Carbon Capture, and Bioenergy.

Paul Korting, CEO of ECN: “despite the economic crisis, renewable energy is still growing strongly, specifically in Asia. I therefore welcome  the strategic partnership wit ITRI. Given the challenges we are facing and the ambitions in the Netherlands and Taiwan, both institutes as well as countries can benefit from this cooperation.” Alex Tong, Vice President of ITRI adds: “the Netherlands and Taiwan both have aggressive green energy polices and strong desires to develop green energy industry. As national designated organizations for technology and industry development, ITRI and ECN have common energy R&D activities, and have found some topics of mutual interests. The MOU shows the good will and serves as the basis for many co-operations between these two parties in the future.”

MOU
This MOU establishes a framework for cooperation between the Parties to conduct collaborative projects which would include one or more of the following broad green energy areas or other areas of mutual interest to the institutions: wind energy, carbon capture, and bioenergy. With further discussions, additional areas of collaboration may be identified. The objectives for this collaboration are to pursue joint research interests through information exchange, exchanges of scientific personnel, and collaborative activities, as appropriate, for mutually agreed wind, bioenergy and carbon capture topics. Expected outcomes from this collaboration include identification of joint research objectives for specific topics of technical collaboration that are identified and mutually agreed upon during follow-up technical discussions and creation of an effective and highly leveraged partnership that utilizes the expertise, experience, and capabilities of both organizations.
