ECN: Greenhouse Gas Conference

10th International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies to be held in the Netherlands

In September 2010 the International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies will be held in the Netherlands. According to Daan Jansen of ECN Hydrogen & Clean Fossil Fuels, this is the conference where the most important developments in the field of
CO2 capture transport and storage are discussed on a global scale.

The GHGT conference has a dual objective: to overcome the barriers to the implementation of technologies to mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases, and to find suitable opportunities to implement those technologies. The conference, the location of which rotates between Europe, Asia and North America is held every two years. This series of conferences was set up in 1997, before which there used to be two conferences: the International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Removal (ICCDR) and the Greenhouse Gas Mitigation options conference. The IEA (International Energy Agency) monitors the quality of the conference by means of its Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme (IEA GHG).
The 10th edition of this conference is to be held in the Netherlands and the organising committee will consequently consist primarily of Dutch people, including Daan Jansen of ECN. He is Programme Manager of Hydrogen & Clean Fossil Fuels and spokesman of ECN as regards CO2 capture. While preparing for this anniversary edition, it is only natural that Mr Jansen should look back: “At the time of the first conference (1992, also in Amsterdam) CCS was still only a concept, with the odd laboratory experiment here and there. Nothing more than that. And now, just seventeen years later, the entire conference will focus on the large-scale capture and storage of CO2.”

Research to reality
Theme of the 10th edition of the conference (19-23 September 2010) is: From Research to Reality. The organising committee has selected ten themes that correspond with the current stage of CCS development: the transition from research to reality. The online registration for the conference is now open.
