What are the new materials requirements for innovative solar cell concepts? How can Si materials contribute to the technological development of Photovoltaic (PV) and support the PV industry? What are the current challenges PV Si materials face?
These and other questions will be addressed in a two days workshop, organised by ECN, that focuses on the main challenges for Si materials. All participants are invited to contribute; either by giving a presentation (via abstract submission), or by playing an active role during the discussions.
This workshop is a follow-up of the successful Si Material workshop, organized in 2008 in Amsterdam, which focused on solar-grade feedstock specifications. In the last 5 years, PV technology and economics have changed considerably and it’s now time to define a roadmap for Si PV materials challenges.
Programme A final programme will be based on abstract submission. PV Si materials include feedstock, ingots, and wafers, as well as, other materials and processes for their manufacturing.
The workshop programme is divided in four main topics: • R&D results: short to long term innovations and benchmark studies; • Materials requirements for the PV industry; • Current challenges facing Si Materials (diffusion length demands, defects and degradation mitigations), and • Outline of research programs.
Call for abstracts Contributions to the workshop program can be submit through abstract submission before 1 July 2013. For more details, please visit: http://www.siliconmaterialsworkshop.com/call-for-abstracts.
Selected contributions will be published in a special issue of Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells together with the summary of the workshop.
Location The workshop will be held in the "Sala del Chiostro" of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" located in the area of the Domus Aurea at 200 meters from the Flavian Amphitheatre (Colosseum). Address: University of Rome "La Sapienza", Faculty of Engineering, Sala del Chiostro – Via Eudossiana 18, 00184 Rome (Italy).
Registration Online registration will open during the second half of May.
We look forward to meeting you in Rome.
