Paul Korting (56), currently General Director Industry and Technology at TNO, has been appointed as Managing Director of ECN by the Supervisory Board of ECN as of 1 December 2010.
Paul Korting is joining ECN after a lengthy career at TNO. With a background in aeronautical engineering, he has been responsible for organisation development, commercial cooperation and growth at director level for the Prins Maurits Laboratory and the core areas Defence, Security and Safety and Industry and Technology.
Ton is leaving after a period of eight years in which the international position of the energy research centre and the cooperation with the business community was enhanced significantly. “When I took office in 2002, I envisaged a period of about five years. This turned out to be eight years. It is a good thing that the new director will bring the development of ECN as leading research institute in the field of energy issues to an even higher level”.
Ruud Lubbers, chair of the Supervisory Board, made the following statement about the succession: “Paul Korting is an excellent successor to Ton Hoff. Ton brought the quality and reputation of this unique Dutch research institute to a higher level in the last years. The Supervisory Board is confident that Paul Korting will be able to adequately give further shape and substance to the innovative research of energy technology for the Dutch energy system and its transition towards sustainability. Moreover, he is very experienced in strengthening the competitiveness of our country in this field, among others by cooperating with the business community.”
