How is your air measured?

ECN organizes a symposium entitled ‘Air Monitoring Instrumentation’ from December 10th until December 12th in association with Applikon and Mechatronics. This conference will include presentations and workshops about instruments for the composition of particulate matter and several gases such as ammonia. The quality of our air is determined by numerous different factors. The ECN research program Air Quality and Climate Change is specialized in predicting, measuring and assessing these issues. The symposium taking place in Schagen, Noord Holland, introduces a wide spectrum of air quality instruments based on knowledge and technology developed by ECN.

International users, potential users and developers of measuring instruments will be present at this symposium and can exchange their knowledge and experience. The program offers, besides this, a great deal of information about a spectrum of equipment and measuring methods. This will be presented during twenty minute sessions by international guests; the achieved results and possible applications will also be discussed in these sessions. “It is interesting to share experiences and compare them. By doing this, new possibilities for developing and/or optimizing equipment and methods can be found,” says Rene Otjes, ECN organizer of the symposium.

MARGA
One of the monitoring devices developed by ECN is MARGA. This device measures gas concentrations and particulate matter very precisely. It will be presented along with other instruments, such as the AiRRmonia, GRAEGOR and Soot Monitor. The developers will be present to answer questions and share experiences.
Posters will also be presented and will provide a great deal of information. The conference is an excellent opportunity for those involved with air quality to be widely informed.

On the third day a visit to the measuring post Cabauw is planned, one of the Netherlands best equipped measuring locations. Here measurements can be conducted up to an altitude of 200 meters. Otjes: “A fun and interesting trip and a relaxing closing to an intense program”.
